| The children of St Matthias School, the parish school of St Matthew's, worked with artists Becky and Thea on a project based on the three Abrahamic faiths. Their work was on show in church in the lead up to Holy Week. |

| The opening in church drew a large crowd from people across the diverse community that is Bethnal Green. |

| Appearances can be deceptive. There was an audio track filling the air which is not evident in the picture. Hidden away were video and other audio projects. This was part of the work on the three faiths from classes across St Matthias School. |

Tom Dollard painted our Paschal Candle this year. The view from the front can be seen above.
He spoke about it in the sermon slot on Sunday April 11. He pointed out a number of aspects. Here is what he was prepared to commit to paper:
The ideas behind the candle are pretty simple -earth, wind (sky and sunset), water and fire - all of the elements are there with symbol of God - lamb, Dove and cross.
The Dove is swooping over the water - theme of peace = Noah and the flood, the Holy Spirit with disciples.
The lamb is in the fields - safely in the fold, and symbolises new life, resurrection - the risen Christ.
I haven't tried to be too clever, but other possible interpretations are of new life (lamb) and a new dawn (rising sun) together with resurrection and forgiveness of sins - lamb of God.
The view of the back of the candle can be seen below. |
