Amaris O’Connor has been coming to St Matthew’s since before she was born! Her mother, Emma Harradine, was attending church with her sons, Luke, Levi and Jordan, when she was pregnant. Amaris came to church in her own right only days after her birth, was baptised there and has been coming ever since. A keen singer and performer, this year she has joined the serving team. She, as many of our young people do, attends our church school, St Matthias.
Barbara is an Eastender through and through. She was baptised in St Matthew’s and has led an interesting life in work and leisure. One of the parish clergy officiated at the funeral of her partner, Dennis. Since then has been coming to church. Barbara says, ‘The people are lovely and have made me feel very welcome. It’s a real home.’ Barbara has become more involved, having been confirmed in St Matthew’s in October 2013. As she says, 'It's changed my life.'
Sonny and Gail Chan are well known in the area. They write: 'We come to St Matthews for the very fine welcome that the clergy and the congregation offer us every single week. We have a priest that cares and another that is honest and up front. We feel that we belong in St Matthews and together with the congregation honour and celebrate the Lord.'
